In the world of SELFIE’S, what does your business SELFIE look like?

How many selfie’s do we see posted in a day? A week? In hours? 

When we take selfie’s, we have the opportunity to add a filter, to crop, to adjust and basically create what we want the world to see. 

Ten years ago, if someone saw me taking a picture of myself while sitting at a stop light, they might think I was a bit narcissistic or conceited. Why do we take selfie’s? 

Well, there are many answers to this question and it all depends on who you ask. Some people take them to see how they look that day or moment, some take them to share great moments of their lives to friends and family. You can create your identity on social media outlets through the pictures you share, whether it is a true or false reality. Wow, how times have changed. 

Selfie’s also help you see your strengths and weaknesses of your own self-perception or how you represent yourself to the world. Sometimes I may look at one of mine and be inspired to get to the gym more often or to change my hair. 

From The Social Psychology of the Selfie, “'Self-image is important, and not always in a narcissistic way. It's how we define ourselves, and present for others to see. We rely on others' perceptions, judgments and appraisals to develop our social self.”

So, with all of that said, there is another kind of “selfie” to consider. Your business selfie. Is it fine tuned? Do you have to apply “filters” to adjust your delivery or are you proud of what image you provide to your potential consumers? Better yet, are you proud of your delivery of services and customer satisfaction? 

Today, consumers do more than just surf the web or ask around for references. They look at everything that concerns your business or YOU. They become connected to you before you even meet in some situations. 

If you are not proud of what your business selfie looks like, how could you improve it? What does your strategy look like or do you even have one? Flying blind in a heavily saturated world of information is not a good idea. 

Because your competitors could be bringing their A-game to the table. 

There are a few methods that will always work when creating your business image across social mediums.

  • Consistency- Your logo, your colors and your brand should always hold continuity. It looks incredibly unorganized when you have different logos, colors and fonts representing your business. 
  • A creative message- Do your potential customers/client’s easily recognize what you offer? Your message should be loud and clear. 
  • Compartmentalizing- Keep your personal and business selfie’s separate from one another. What your views are may not run parallel with your potential suitors and can keep you from getting a client or an account. 
  • Professionalism- Does everything look organized? Are you an expert at what you do? Do you provide information to the public so that you are answering questions they may have. 
  • Wisdom- Acknowledge where you are and where you want to be! Fill that gap with wisdom, ask for help and surround yourself with people who can help you get there. 

Next time you make a decision in your branding strategy, think of what your business selfie really looks like. It will help you make a plan to improve your strategy so that you are proud of what your business represents to the world.
